Our annual Volunteer
Breakfast was held on Thurs., May 20, 2010 at
9:30 am at the Hawthorne Inn in Berlin.
The meeting was opened by a presentation of the
colors by the Antique Veterans of Meriden. A
large crowd of volunteers then enjoyed a breakfast which included scrambled eggs, hash browns,
sausage and bacon, in addition to beverages.
The audience was
next entertained
by the New Britain High School Show Choir (16 sophomores, juniors and seniors led by
director Brian Germain) with a sparkling and
energetic show of dance and song performed in
striking colorful costumes.
Speakers included:
-
Anne Ostberg,
Director of the CT Corporation for National
and Community Service who thanked
the volunteers for all they do.
-
Stephen
Hennessey, Lead Investigator, CT Attorney
General Office, who warned the attendees
about the the risks of scams, including the
"Nigerian" pleas for money, falsified
cashier's checks and money orders, and
requests for money for relatives "in
trouble".
After closing remarks by
RSVP Director Diane Briggs, a raffle for
numerous prizes capped off a delightful event. |
