Who can volunteer?
This program is specifically designed for people, ages 55 years and older.  No one is too old to donate his or her time to help.

I’m not retired - can I still volunteer?
Yes.  Many of the volunteer opportunities offered at RSVP have flexible schedules that can work around your day.

Why should I sign up with RSVP?
RSVP is one stop shopping for volunteerism.  We offer a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for someone to choose from.  At the same time, this agency has the resources to develop partnerships and programs to maximize the skills of volunteers and help our community in exciting ways.

I’m not sure I want to make a commitment to volunteer.
Some RSVP volunteers do as little as 10 hours a year and some do 15 hours a week.  It is up to your schedule and interests. You can always change your volunteer assignment or take a break from volunteering all together.

Will someone be calling me all the time to volunteer?
No, not unless you ask us to.  Many RSVP volunteers have been placed in the job they wanted and while we do keep in occasional contact we do not ask them to do anything else.  There are volunteers who like sporadic work.  These volunteers will get a phone call when different jobs come up.  Every volunteer has the right to say yes or no to a job when asked.

What if I don’t like my volunteer job?
We will not ask you to do a volunteer job that you do not like.  One of the best features of this program is the variety of opportunities available for someone interested in volunteering.  If you don’t like your volunteer job, we’ll find you another one more suitable.

I’m already volunteering - why should I join RSVP?
By becoming a part of RSVP, you receive benefits such as supplemental insurance and mileage reimbursement that you may not get elsewhere.  This program is also a great place to share your stories and accomplishments with other volunteers who have their own tales to tell.  Those stories inspire other people to become involved in helping their community.

Is RSVP a good place to learn new skills?
Absolutely!  Volunteering can offer a chance to do new things and many jobs involve training when needed.  It is also a great chance to learn from other people.

I’ve never worked outside of the home - can I volunteer?
Definitely!  Everyone has skills, experiences and something to offer.

How does an agency get involved?
An agency looking for volunteers or to collaborate with RSVP only needs to contact our offices to discuss how we can work together to help maximize the use of volunteers in our community.
